Bahri Bilir, MD

Dr. Bilir earned his medical degree from Hacettepe University in Turkey. He went on to complete his internship in Internal Medicine at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, IL, and finished his Internal Medicine training at S.U.N.Y. in Buffalo, NY. Dr. Bilir did his fellowship at the University of Michigan where he stayed on as Faculty for one year, and was awarded the Young Investigator Award by the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease.

Prior to joining Rocky Mountain Gastroenterology, Dr. Bilir was asked to join the University of Colorado as an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Associate Director of the Liver Transplantation Department where he oversaw rapid growth of the program and was involved with the first living donor transplantation in Colorado. He authored over 20 publications and received a NIA Grant for Liver Transplantation. In addition, his work was recognized by the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease.

Dr. Bilir moved into private practice with Arapahoe Gastroenterology (now Rocky Mountain Gastroenterology) and took the role as Medical Director of Liver Transplantation at Centura-Porter Hospital Liver Transplant Program in 1996, before moving the program to Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center in 2015.

Since 2011, Dr. Bilir has been awarded a 5280 Top Doctor for Transplant Hepatology and the Preceptor of the Year award from Rocky Vista University. He continues to teach as Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado at Denver and at Rocky Vista University in Parker. He is also the Physician Organizer of the Annual GI Update (Continuing Medical Education event) geared towards the education and collaboration of community physicians in Colorado – which has become one of the largest GI conferences in the country, hosting more than 500 local providers.

Dr. Bilir maintains memberships with the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease, the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, the Colorado Medical Society and the Arapahoe Douglas County Medical Society, among many other professional organizations.

He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Liver Transplantation.
